The Atkinson Residence is located at Kicking Horse ski resort, and incorporates a DX geoexchange field that feeds radiant heating for the basement and main floor. Cooling is provided by a forced air system. Due to beautifully exposed timber beams on all floors, it was a challenge to design the ductwork for this residence. The upper level is served by a high velocity fan coil system which fits concealed between the structural elements. Two seperate deck snowmelt areas are served by the geoexchange system and a back-up high efficiency condensing boiler. Ice and snow detecting sensors ensure the snowmelt system only operates when needed.

Two heat recovery ventilators provide the fresh air for the residence and indoor pool area. The controls system for the residence will be fully integrated with the digital home system and remotely accessible. The domestic hot water is preheated by the geoexchange system.
