The Christina Living Arts Center is an exciting community based project located in the beautiful town of Christina Lake, BC. The project is targeting LEED Silver. This innovative project is being led, managed and general contracted by the local Chamber of Commerce and Community at large. Designed by Studio 9 Architecture, a Nelson based creative architecture group, the building envelope offers exceptional performance with staggered stud wall construction. The envelope provides 50% better insulating values than standard framing techniques.

The mechanical systems consist of an open loop geoexchange system feeding polished concrete floor radiant heating throughout the building. Cooling is provided by fan coils also connected to the geoexchange system. A heat recovery ventilator provides the fresh make-up air to the building. Domestic hot water is preheated by the geoexchange system and pipes are installed in the ceiling void for future solar thermal system connections. The energy model demonstrates 55% savings over an identical building designed to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings.
