Meet the Rocky Point Engineering Associates

We are excited to announce three employees who have been promoted to an Associate position within Rocky Point Engineering; these three individuals have established key abilities and attributes such as a positive attitude, ability to mentor a team and most of all have demonstrated strong leadership skills as project managers.

Darcy Pederson, P.Eng., LEED® AP BD+C

Darcy started with Rocky Point Engineering as a Mechanical Designer in February 2011 after finishing his co-op mechanical engineering degree at the University of Victoria. He received LEED® accreditation in 2014 and his P.Eng. license in 2015.

Throughout his time at Rocky Point Engineering he has worked on a diverse range of projects from small commercial and residential projects to large commercial, LEED, healthcare, education and industrial projects.

Darcy’s main focus on a project is to deliver a high-quality system that meets all owner requirements while staying on budget to ensure a successful project from start to finish. Optimizing systems of any size is a primary goal that always provides a challenge to ensure the client is receiving the most “bang for their buck.”

Darcy’s involvement in projects include cost estimating, reports and studies, schematic design, detailed design, HVAC load calculations, HVAC design, plumbing design, energy modelling, drafting and 3D modelling, construction administration, construction inspections, and commissioning.

He believes that a system on paper is only as good as its construction and commissioning and that a hands-on approach is paramount to ensure it is constructed and set-up to operate at its maximum potential.

Mathieu Bechard, P.Eng.

Mathieu started his career in 2005 at MechWave Engineering, and moved to BC in 2008 to join Rocky Point Engineering as a designer in 2008.

Mathieu specializes in designing HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems for projects such as schools, colleges, universities, community centers, warehouses, residential, commercial buildings, arenas, laboratories, libraries and office buildings.

Mathieu recently completed design of the new Emily Carr University of Art & Design, a new LEED Gold $120 million facility which incorporates a district energy system supplemented with heat recovery heat pumps, and active chilled beam technology. His wide range of experience gives him a unique and valuable perspective when he approaches new projects, and his adherence to timelines and thorough coordination has led to consistent client satisfaction.

Jason Le, P.Eng.

Jason obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia in 2012 and joined Rocky Point Engineering in January 2013, bringing with him a keen interest in sustainable building technologies and HealthCare facilities.

Since joining Rocky Point Engineering, Jason has been actively involved in project management within our Vancouver operations, from the initial conceptual mechanical building systems design to final detailed mechanical systems preparation. His education and hands on experience have enabled him to complete projects both on time and with a high level of expertise.

Jason has been the project lead in the design and construction of many complex HVAC and plumbing systems within healthcare projects. This includes project budgeting, systems procurement, project scheduling, construction administration c/w field reviews throughout final building commissioning all which has enabled him to successfully deliver a wide selection of mechanical building sector type projects.

Jason provides an insightful client service approach within all aspects of our business model. This allows him the ability to approach each job with a fresh and open perspective, while still maintaining a high level of detail project understanding and deliverables.
